What is Sub48?
Sub48 is an India-based, monthly 48-hour online hackathon designed for beginners, students and anyone learning to code. Every edition has a single problem statement, the brief, kept secret until it's revealed to everyone at the same second. Participants then have 48 hours to build and submit a working project.
The name says the goal: ship something real in under 48 hours. It's built for people who have never taken part in a hackathon, so the brief is sized for one beginner to finish in a weekend.
How a weekend works
- Register on the contest page with a Google account. It takes under a minute.
- The brief unlocks on Friday at 7pm IST, on the website and in the Discord.
- Build for 48 hours, alone or with one friend. AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot are allowed.
- Submit by Sunday at 7pm IST: a public GitHub repository and a demo video of 2 minutes or less.
- Results are published within days in the Hall of Fame, and everyone with a valid entry gets a verifiable certificate.
Who can take part
Anyone 18 or older who lives in India. You don't need hackathon experience, a team or a particular language or framework: a laptop, internet and a free GitHub account are enough. Teams are 1 or 2 people, and each person registers separately.
Cost and prizes
Edition #01 is free to enter. From Edition #02, entry is ₹50.
Prizes are paid AI subscriptions, sent as Indian Google Play credit. Edition #01: winner gets ChatGPT Go (1 month, ₹400). From Edition #02: winner gets ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro, runner-up gets ChatGPT Go. Prizes can need a minimum number of entries, announced when registration opens.
How winners are chosen
Every entry is scored out of 100 on a public rubric: Works 35, Solves the brief 25, UI / UX 20, Demo and clarity 20. The winner and runner-up are named with their scores in the Hall of Fame. The full rules are on the rules page.
The next edition
Edition #01: registration closes Thu 19 Nov, the brief drops Fri 20 Nov, 19:00 IST, and submissions close Sun 22 Nov, 19:00 IST. All editions are on the contests page.
